THE DIRT FLOOR
i. SCIENTIFIC FACT
Scientific fact: that there are five (5) basic colors of earth (Dirt).
Scientific fact: that there are five (5) basic colors of Mankind.
II. PREPARATION
Exodus 30:18 (Complete Context 17-21) (KJ)
18. Thou shalt also make a laver of brass, and his foot also of brass, to wash withal: and thou shalt put it between the tabernacle of the congregation and the altar, and thou shalt put water therein.
Exodus 30:18 (VOICE)
18. Make a bronze basin for ceremonial washing and set it on a bronze stand. Place it between the congregation tent and the altar. Keep water in it at all times.
These two scriptures from different translations seem to say or have two different topics. Let’s examine.
JKV “and his foot also of brass”
Voice “set it on a bronze stand”
1. Bronze is symbolic of and represents Incorruptibility. This speaks of Jesus Christ. Remember:
John 1:14 (Voice)
14. The Voice took on flesh and became human and chose to live alongside us. We have seen Him, enveloped in undeniable splendor—the one true Son of the Father—evidenced in the perfect balance of grace and truth.
Therefore every time God spoke in the Old Testament Jesus was there. The Word of God!
2.“Base” speaks about foundation, the other; “his foot” speaks about following in his steps.
There are a few symbolic meanings of why the laver was filled with water for washing:
Exodus 40:11 (CJB)
11. Anoint the basin and its base, and consecrate it.
This is a picture of Jesus under the New Covenant:
1. Symbolic of obedience, just as we follow Jesus in water baptism. 2. Is that the laver was polished, so it would give a reflection of one’s image while looking into washing at the basin. The basin, it’s a type of preparing ourselves by examining ourselves on a daily basis before we enter His presence. 3. That last part of verse 18 says, “Place it between the tent of meeting and the altar.” This gives us the proper steps as we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. Remember, one of the names of the altar was, “The shadow of the Cross.” 4. In-between speaks about mediator, this also gives a picture of an individual making a public confession and proclamation of the start of a spiritual life in Jesus Christ.
Cont. Exodus 30:19-21 (CJB)
19. Aharon and his sons will wash their hands and feet there
20. when they enter the tent of meeting — they are to wash with water, so that they won’t die. Also when they approach the altar to minister by burning an offering for Adonai,
21. they are to wash their hands and feet, so that they won’t die. This is to be a perpetual law for them through all their generations.”
The Laver, a type of water baptism/outward cleansing, is our outward proclamation that we are following Jesus Christ. Then as we enter the Holy Place, as we fellowship in the Light of Christ (The Candlestick) and in His presence which defines the table of His presence (Bread), we offer up our petitions before God at the table of incense.
Dust, which was the serpent’s food—and dust, which betokened death and ruin, formed the floor of God’s dwelling place.
III. CONTRAST BETWEEN TWO
Jesus and Dirt (Mankind):
- Beauty and barrenness;
- Preciousness and worthlessness;
- The incorruptible with the perishable
- Of Glory and vanity
The dirt floor represents mankind in the presence of God, following God’s plan and purpose. As the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies were covered, we the body of Jesus the Christ is covered with His righteousness and blood, which gives us access to the Father.
The Israelites outside of the fence represented the world. There is a Gate to which they can enter but it’s their choice...
