THE EXODUS
THE REASON FOR THE EXODUS
When You Are Tired Of Your Bondage Call Upon The LORD
Exodus 12:40, 41
40. Now the time that the sons of Israel lived in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.
41. And at the end of four hundred and thirty years, to the very day, all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.
(For reference and clarification only; Acts 7:6-8 400 year different time.)
I. THE EXODUS
Exodus 12:37, 38
37. And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, beside children.
38. And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle.
In this dispensation (Time) of the Law women and children were not counted. Therefore this six hundred thousand counted were only men. In verse 31 says, “And a mixed multitude went up also with them“. This statement tells us we have no idea of the actual number.
II. THE RED SEA CROSSING
GOD HAD THE ISRAELITES WAIT FOR THE EGYPTIANS.
Exodus 14:1-4 (Context 1-22 NKJ)
1. Now the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
2. “Speak to the children of Israel, that they turn and camp before Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, opposite Baal Zephon; you shall camp before it by the sea.
Here God gave a specific location for Moses and for us. For us, so archeologist could locate and find artifacts that validate the Word of God.
3. For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, ‘They are bewildered by the land; the wilderness has closed them in.’
4. Then I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, so that he will pursue them; and I will gain honor over Pharaoh and over all his army, that the Egyptians may know that I am the Lord.” And they did so.
Sometimes God has us to wait for the enemy, so we can see God’s divine power and authority over the enemy; causing our faith and trust to grow in Him.
Exodus 14:13-17 (Context 1-22 NKJ)
13. And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.
14. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”
Wait upon the LORD and See His Power, Authority and Protection work on your behalf.
15. And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.
16. But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
17. And I indeed will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them. So I will gain honor over Pharaoh and over all his army, his chariots, and his horsemen.
Exodus 14:19-23 (Context 1-22 NKJ)
19. And the Angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them.
20. So it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel. Thus it was a cloud and darkness to the one, and it gave light by night to the other, so that the one did not come near the other all that night.
God’s Glory moved from leading them to following them for two reasons:
- A cloud and darkness to the one.
- It gave light by night to the other, so that the one did not come near the other all that night.
- This identifies an attribute of God, “Jehovah Shammah,” meaning God is there, God is everywhere.
21. Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided.
22. So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.
23. And the Egyptians pursued and went after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.
God not only protected the Israelites but completely destroyed the enemy, all they had to do was to obey and trust God.
(Miriam the prophetess victory & praise dance to God)
Exodus 15:20,21 (CJB)
20. Also Miryam the prophet, sister of Aharon, took a tambourine in her hand; and all the women went out after her with tambourines, dancing,
21. as Miryam sang to them: “Sing to Adonai, for he is highly exalted! The horse and its rider he threw in the sea!”
Micah 6:4 (CJB)
4. I brought you up from the land of Egypt. I redeemed you from a life of slavery. I sent Moshe, Aharon and Miryam to lead you.
These two passages in scripture make it very clear in biblical times that God the Father used women in positions of Authority and Ministry.
III. THE MAGNITUDE OF GOD’S PROVISION
Exodus 16:12-15 (CJB)
12. “I have heard the grumblings of the people of Isra’el. Say to them: ‘At dusk you will be eating meat, and in the morning you will have your fill of bread. Then you will realize that I am Adonai your God.’”
13. That evening, quails came up and covered the camp; while in the morning there was a layer of dew all around the camp.
14. When the dew had evaporated, there on the surface of the desert was a fine flaky substance, as fine as frost on the ground.
15. When the people of Isra’el saw it, they asked each other, “Man hu? [What is it?]” because they didn’t know what it was. Moshe answered them, “It is the bread which Adonai has given you to eat.
A Group of scholars got together and did some research and came up with some interesting numbers. These numbers give us a glimpse of the great undertaking when the Israelites left Egypt.
Their calculation came up with:
- Three million people crossed the Red Sea.
- The parted sea would have to be three miles wide.
- In a twenty-four hour time frame they would have five thousand side-by-side crossing in haste.
FOOD AND WATER
- Four million pounds of food per day.
- Eleven million gallons of water per day for the people and livestock.
God provided this every day for forty years.
God Redeemed His child by a sacrificial death!
